Day 89- Salzburg II

Continued exploring Salzburg today. We went up Zentrum, where a monastery stood, but was sadly, closed to public. However we found a good spot that overlooks old Salzburg. Looks like we found a good spot for night view.

We went on to explore around Salzburg. Shiyang has a penchant for going into almost every church, which I thought numbs my appreciation for European architecture. But oh well, since we're here already......

Street Market along Salzburg. Seriously, Austrian street food is basically Schnitzel and Wiener in a baguette. The shops, including those in Wien, have a phallic-looking metal thing, in which they will use to dig a hole into the baguette lengthwise, so that the wiener and sauce can be placed inside.

I don't know what it means, but it sounds like a pretty good attitude to adopt for the current credit crunch.

We also went on to Mozart's Birthplace(Mozart Wohnhaus), which was really not much, but has some interesting exhibit of Mozart's possession.

Then we moved on to Schloss Mirabell, apparently the best place to get married in Europe.

Beautiful gardens. Can't imagine what it would be like in summer where the flowers are in full bloom.

Went back to Kapuzinerkloster to wait for our night view......

That's what our lunch and dinner for the past 2 days look like. Why is the can cover "folded"? If not how to scoop up the tuna onto our bread? See, NS has its benefits.

Headed back to the hostel to hang around and take our stuff from the locker. We went on to spend the night at the train station, as we didn't want to miss the first train (6am) to Villach. Our original plan was to take an overnight train to our next destination, Venice. Unfortunately, they only have sleeper place, i.e. more expensive. So our next option is to take the first train to Villach and then transfer to Venice.

Hung around the main lobby and it got colder. Luckily, we found this warmer passenger lounge at the platform level.

Day 88 - "The hills are alive......" Salzburg I

Today marks the first day of travelling for Shiyang. In the morning, we took a ride to Südbahnhof (South Train Station) to catch a train to Salzburg. Turns out we're at the wrong train station. We're suppose to go to Westbahnhof (West Train Station). Stupid us. Salzburg is at the west of Wien what.

Soon we arrive at Salzburg, the birthplace of Mozart. Old Salzburg is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Salzburg is also popularised by "The Sound of Music" movie.

"The Hills are alive......"

So it aren't surprising that Mozart and "The Sound of Music" are the two most commercialised place in Salzburg. We checked into our hostel and began our walk around Salzburg.

We went around St Peter Cathedral and St Peter Cemetry (which we later found out was one of the site of "Sound of Music"). After which, we proceed to Festung Hohensalzburg, a old fortress.

Went back to our hostel, where they were playing "The Sound of Music". Realise that quite a few of the locations we went to today were used for the movie. As for Shiyang, he finally found out that "The Hills are alive...." song used in "Moulin Rouge" is from "The Sound of Music". -.=
