Day 140 - Hardly changing, National Gallery and all that jazz!
Joined Mingli, Ziwei and Janelle to watch the "Change of Guards" Ceremony today. I joked that if not because of this, people wouldn't come to Buckingham palace as there is nothing much to see.
But the weather is bad. So aren't no fanfare or guards playing music......
The only "changing of guards" we saw are these bunch of horsemen riding in, and another group rode out. :( My cynicism of things in UK being over-hyped is growing......
Stop 2: National Gallery
Since the famed National Gallery and National Portrait gallery is just around the corner (ok, about 1km away. Which is a short walk to me now), I've decided to drop by.
Not a art person, so I basically walked through the galleries. Kinda numbed already thanks to all the other art museums in Europe.
Chinese gone wrong - this "Plan" is more of battle plan, rather than a map plan.
Stop 3: Chicago
Did my sums the other day, and realise that I could afford to watch a few more musicals. Decided to watch Chicago, as I was told by Mingli that it was way better than the movie version. Well, I already love the movie version for the way it satires justice systems and the media, what's more the theatre one?
At the Cambridge Theatre
The stage. I was surprised that the stage is very small. There wasn't even an orchestra pit - the orchestra was on stage! But this made the whole setting of a cabaret even stronger. The cabaret jab at the media and court as a "performance" was much harder with this setting, unlike the movie, which appears only as a surreal fantasy.
I have to agree that it is one of the most exciting musicals. The leads for Roxie and Velma are extremely good. The lead who acted and Velma could kick, sing and dance around for 5 minutes to "I can't do it alone" without a panting at all!
And yes, I was "razzle dazzled". I can't agree to its claim to be the sexiest musical though. Scantily clad women doesn't mean sexy hor. Anyway, the lead for Velma? Her legs are so endless, the people behind me proclaim that her legs are taller than they themselves.
