Day 35 - "Wicked" ways for "Defying Gravity!"
Submitted my first essay in UCL. It was for my archaeology module, Ancient Egypt in London.
What can I say, but I'm glad it's over.
Met up with the rest later in the evening to watch "Wicked!". Our original plan, if you remember, was disrupted when it snowed in London.
Saw this shortly after I've exited Victoria Station. There were loud alarm wailings and the entrance to the station was closed. Was it linked to the cops running down the escalator earlier?
Oh. The red sign(below the yellow blinking lights) says the platform is too full. See the screen on the top left? It shows how crowded the platform is. Well after 7 minutes or so, they reopened the entrance, only to close it again after 10 minutes?
We had dinner at Pizza Express, where Heather found a 1-for-1 discount. 4 nice pizzas for 5 people, at £2.70 each. Even cheaper than sandwiches!
The gang in Victoria Theatre. (I was taking the photo of course)
The £7 programme booklet. Well, I collect programme booklets, especially of wonderful productions I watched. The price hurts though (ouch)
The "curtain", a map of Oz. See that dragon on top? It breathes smoke and moves sometimes in the play.
Emerald city on the map glows!
The green foyer
Heather has the potential to be a witch!
Whispering into the cast list.
My first musical in London. What can I say?If you're here in London, watch it. Especially if you're a student, it's only £25 for stall seats. The sets are amazing, the cast even more so. I'm still blown away by Kerry Elis when she did "Defying Gravity". The songs are not very memorable as compared to "Forbidden City" or other Andrew Lloyed Weber works., but still nice nontheless.
But the sets alone is worth the price. I think if they bring this production to Singapore, either they can't bring most of the sets, or it will be extremely expensive.
One thing I note is that they are very open about who's performing. That cast list I whispered into? It's right at the door, so that you know if it is the main star or if it's the understudy performing. They took the effort to insert a piece of paper into your programme booklet if someone else is performing for any role, however minor. Well, compare that to a certain musical in Singapore, in which many bought tickets to see the main star perform, and made noise it was the understudy.
One thing to note: be at your seat before the "end of intermission" bell rings! Once it rang, the floor was immediately dark, and the musical started in less than 5 seconds!
Here's my favourite number from the musical, "Defying Gravity"
