Day 14 - Museum Visit Lesson
Went to the British Museum for the first time today. It's for a lesson for my course, Ancient Egypt in London. Yes, I'm mapping that back as a GEM.
Buildings at Russell Square, Near the Musuem. This is something that I like (just a little bit) about London - a variety of architecture - Art Deco, Postmodern, etc.
The rear entrance to the Museum.
I've been intrigued by the glass roof designed by Sir Norman Foster since I read about it 5 years ago. It's amazing how the Great Court, a rotting space exposed to the elements is restored into a central area of great beauty, all thanks to the glass roof.
A different angle reveals a different beauty
Naqada inspired Bindari pottery . Lesson on Pre-dynastic Egypt.
This surprised me the most. A garuda from Tibet!
The pedagogy used by the lecturer intrigues me - how she's able to weave things together and goes back to the main argument, and ensuring that she has elaborated it with much depth. Very different from the lecture I had from another archealogist back home where we were all lost in the elaboration and not able to see how it weaves back into the main argument.
A good lesson for me as well, on conducting museum lessons. Most importantly, how the images or objects you see help you to learn?
